Road Trip: Perth to Margaret River | 5 Travel Experiences You Can’t Miss!

And how to do it on a budget!

The Harding Letter

27th Dec 2023

The feeling you get from travelling is on par with ONE of the best you can feel.

Why? Because you get to feel like you’re living your life on your own terms. You pick the locations, you set up and organise the experiences, you are in control of your day.

Unlocking achievements, collecting experiences & enriching moments.

These can become some of your favourite memories.

Honestly though, I haven’t felt like I’ve had that in a while..

The problem

Becoming overwhelmed, over stressed, over worked & needing a break in life.
This was me last week.

I’d spent a lot of my time dedicated to others, I like doing that, but you need to make time for yourself too. This is important.

We can all experience burnout, in some form or other.

Having a balance in life is so crucial to optimising your health, wealth and relationships and happiness.

The solution

As a way to restore this much needed balance, I decided to take a 2 day holiday road trip from Perth to the Margaret River Region.

Here’s 5 travel experiences to tick off that you can do for free or on a budget!

  1. Busselton Jetty

  • Gorgeous views of coastline

  • 1.8km long timber piled jetty that protects Geographe bay

  • Has a train that runs to the end & back

  • 20 mins walk one way

  • Walk day pass will cost you $4

  1. Indijup Spa

  • Free entry

  • A rock formation on the coastline where the waves flow over the rocks and creates a natural spa in the lower water outlets

  1. Amelia Park Winery

  • Located 30 minutes from Margaret River town

  • Wine tasting available most days for $10

  • Walk ins available

  • Stunning views of rolling hills, trees and wildlife

  • Taste a variety off wines from that region

  • Enhance your wine knowledge through a wonderful experience

Pro tip: There’s so many wineries in the Margaret River region to choose from. Depending on how early you book, the time of year you go and what’s available.

Here’s a few that I drove past on my way down:

  • Vasse Felix - established in 1967 (the OG)

  • Graylin Estate

  • Grace Farm

  1. Mammoth Cave

  • Located on caves road, 20 minutes drive from Margaret River town

  • Learn about the history of the region through a guided tour via audio headphones - cost $24

  • Super unique landscape and very scenic

  1. Hamelin Bay

  • Free entry

  • 30 minutes drive, south of Margaret River town

  • Home to the local stingrays that hang around the beach and coast

  • Panoramic coastal views, soft white sand and light blue ocean

To help plan your time there, below are some of my other recommendations for accommodation, food & drink:
